Making Peace With the Past

He tenderly whispered to my heart, “all that matters is that I love you.”

What can you say to such words when you struggle to reconcile the past and the present? When questions concerning “am I good enough? Am I ready?” rise to the surface?

All I could do was repeat the words, “All that matters is that I love you.”

What Once Was, Will Never Be Again

And in many instances, silence is needed to allow the Master to sow His seed in our hearts. Yes, there comes a time when Jesus softly and tenderly asks us to make peace with the past because “what once was will never be again” (Richard Baxter).

It is time for a new road where the path before us is straight.

The beauty of the dream He is birthing cannot be sustained in the cradle of shame, even though the scars of the past testify that darkness once ruled.

We often do not realize how the past overshadows every decision we make or how we view ourselves in relation to the dreams springing up inside.

So Holy Spirit comes and opens up the revelation, “to blossom and bloom, you need to deal with the insecurities in your heart.”

Making Peace With The Past: Abraham’s Journey

As you enter destiny and dreams fulfilled, everything that would hinder your progress comes to the surface and must be dealt with as the Lord leads.

Take, for example, Abram, who would become Abraham.

Abram left the Ur of the Chaldees but remained in Haran, not completely obeying the calling, until years later.

Finally, he makes it to the Promised land only to part with the nephew he considered a son.

The day of the promise fulfilled could not hold both the past and the dream of God.

So, realizing it was time to walk into God’s promise, Abram let go of the last piece of the puzzle holding him back.

It was then time to accept the authority that comes with the promise to conquer the kings of the past and establish a covenant with the God of the promise.

He needed to make peace with the past to become Abraham, the father of many nations.

Time to Blossom and Bloom

Once you realize that all that matters is that Jesus loves you, it is then time to make peace with yourself.

God has intricately designed you to be who you are: Beautiful, wild and free.

The one who clings to His mighty outstretched arm and knows He will never let you go— you are the one whom the past has no authority or influence over.

And as the Master would sing (and as He so joyfully reminded me of the lyrics to the song “Para Siempre”)

“Olvidemos el pasado, y vivamos el presente.

Lo que importa es que me amas, y te amo:

Para siempre.”
